How to Split a PDF by Page Range

Extract useful sections while keeping page references and confidential material under control.

Define ranges first

PDF page numbers may differ from printed labels such as roman-numeral front matter. Use viewer page positions when entering ranges, and record the intended start and end of each output.

Choose extraction or removal

Extraction creates a new document from selected pages. Removal creates a new document without selected pages. Neither operation automatically removes sensitive data stored in attachments, metadata, comments, or bookmarks.

Validate every output

Open each split file, verify first and last pages, confirm page orientation, and rename it clearly. If the section will stand alone, update bookmarks and references that pointed outside its range.
