How to Merge PDFs Without Losing Pages

Plan order, page sizes, bookmarks, and validation before distributing one combined file.

Prepare the inputs

Rename files in the intended order and open each one before merging. Password protection, damaged cross-reference tables, and inconsistent page rotations can interrupt processing.

Merge deliberately

Arrange files and pages in the workspace rather than trusting filename order. Mixed page sizes are valid, but they can look uneven when printed or presented.

  • Confirm the cover and final page
  • Preserve landscape orientation
  • Decide whether existing bookmarks must be rebuilt

Check the combined document

Verify total page count against the inputs, scan thumbnails for duplicates and omissions, test internal links, and confirm that confidential attachments were not included accidentally.
